"Inside Out"
Author's Note
Edward T. Atkinson, our minister from Cohasset, Massacusetts, wrote these words, which I have used as opening words in church a number of times.
If you knew how I felt inside, you would not act that way outside.
But, then, most likely, if I knew how you felt inside, I would not mind so much the way you act outside.
Why don't we try turning ourselves inside out?

Note the connection to Francis Bacon's thoughts on revenge. I think Atkinson articulates it more clearly (though I imagine that people in 1625 would have some trouble accessing Atkinson's language), but I love Bacon's thorn metaphor.
